IAAF World Championships in
Athletics Selection Policy
Osaka Japan
25 August – 02 September 2007
Selection Policy
Our clear
intention is to select the
strongest possible team, whilst
also offering development
opportunities to appropriately
qualified and able athletes. All
interested parties should take
note of the changes to the
selection systems highlighted in
the guidance notes.
Norwich Union World Trials
Manchester 27-29 July 2007
As
per normal practice, no athlete
will be considered without
participation in the Trials,
unless they have sought and
received prior approval or can
provide evidence of extenuating
circumstances such as injury.
Reflecting the importance of an
open selection challenge,
performances at the Trials event
will be given primacy over
achievements at other events.
One notable exception to this
will be for athletes selected to
participate in the European
Under 20 Championship. Given
the close proximity, the
selection committee will take
special note of performances at
this event when considering
selections for the World, so as
not to penalise younger
athletes.
The
first two athletes in each event
will be automatically selected
provided they achieve the A
standard, or have already
achieved the A standard within
the qualifying period.
First wave selection will take
place on the 30th of
July, with final additions being
made on the 6th.
This early selection will enable
arrangements to be made for
travel to the preparation camp
and competition site.
