Race results February-March 2001 Surrey County 20kms Monks Hill, 24 FebruarySurrey
Walking Club hosted the Surrey County 20km Championship from its HQ at Monks
Hill, Selsdon. The event was marked by the presence of the County's two top
internationals and they provided an excellent competition with finishing times
separated by less than a minute and at just over 90 minutes. The undulating
course certainly tested the less fit down the field by half an hour as the sun
sank and the air cooled sharply. Mark Easton, who has been bettered in several
recent contests by training colleague Chris Cheeseman, who, on this occasion,
was content to hang on to halfway. A short stop by Chris left Mark slightly
ahead, but a surge from Chris bought him past Mark. However, the race was on,
and he was unable to break away and the latter found enough to leave Chris in
his wake. National 50km
