County &
Club Championships:
The track
season is now in full swing so there is plenty happening especially
as the Norman Park Track is due for closure soon for upgrade to full
8 lane status. Pushing the event back before July and school
examinations unfortunately excluded a number of younger and faster
competitors nevertheless the field was fairly full for the seniors
and the conditions less hot than usual. As usual Lightman and
Hannell occupied consecutive places in both races with Hannell just
holding on after a fast start. Lightman’s County placing was very
welcome as a competitive race gave him a relatively good placing in
the much busier Middlesex Championship at Copthall. The Surrey event
was held in conjunction as there were insufficient judges to hold
the race within the Surrey County Championships at Crystal Palace and
many potential entrants were put off by the difficult journey across
London.
