Enfield 5 miles 17th March 2007

These races are growing in popularity all the time and even though not
near to Croydon Surrey Walking Club had six out. Remarkably, four of
these were from three generations of the Crane family with Stephen once
again improving his time and position. Although there was a competing
inter-County race, almost 40 faced the starter in ideal racing
conditions and times were generally good with our team all pleased with
their performances. Peter Crane was very pleased to have both of his
sons racing well and grandson Simeon completing his first mile event.

The very regular and well
supported Enfield league held another 5 mile race this weekend in cool
windy but not fierce conditions. Stephen Crane was once again our first
man home with an improved time which was reflected in his 2nd position
in the Handicap. Although Shaun Lightman’s position was twice Stephen’s
8th the time difference was under two minutes with Shaun having a better
race than for some time. 7 Surrey members were out for and the team
bronze was a bonus. It is a quite difficult course with a hard concrete
surface and lots of bends throughout.
