Micky Brown Memorial Track Walks (Horsham)

On the hottest day of the year so far Steyning A/C held their annual track meeting at Horsham with not quite as many out as hoped although the all important young age groups were better represented with Tonbridge and the home club having reasonable numbers.

Surrey Walking Club had a team of three in the Senior Men’s event and unusually for recent times won the team event from Steyning. The race finished with second place for Shaun Lightman in a time not quite up to the 14 min 56 sec he recorded over 3km during the week but still reasonable under the conditions. 150 metres behind Hannell struggled but failed to close the gap while Peter Crane just lost a race to avoid being lapped by Shaun but easily kept well clear of Hannell doing the same. The surprising outcome of the team scores cheered us all up.
