Report for
Pat Furey 5 miles
- Enfield
15th March 2008
This Open race is part of
the Enfield league races but is sponsored by one of their
illustrious members – Irish International Pat Furey. Almost 40
competitors started in a light drizzle which soon stopped to give
ideal, windless conditions. A third team finish was a good result
for the Surrey Walking Club party. The third member of the
first-claim team was Paul Nihil – silver medalist
in the Tokyo Olympics – out to remind us of his continuing interest
in the sport. Probably the best performance came from Paul’s
frequent rival in their younger days, Shaun Lightman. A bit of
regular training took him to a time equivalent to a sub hour 10km.
