Race walking
In England, the
governing body for race walking
is the Race Walking Association (RWA) which is organised
into regional
areas: Northern, Midlands and Southern.
Like every
athletic sport in the UK (road running, fell running,
etc) the Race
Walking Association is
affiliated to UK Athletics (UKA) which is the governing
body of all athletics in this country.
Walking is the most natural activity known to humankind
and one that can be enjoyed by all - young and old, fast
or slow, beginner or experienced.
Surrey Walkers compete in many races at home and
abroad. Races range from 2km to 200km (125
miles) on track or road. Standard race distances tend to
be 5km, 10km and 20km for ladies and 10km, 20km and 50km
for the men. There are, of course, many races still
calculated in miles - from 5 miles to
100 miles.
Race walking is an athletic event covering a wide range of distances
on road and on the athletic
track. Distances vary from
2km to 100 miles (or more).
Surrey Walking Club HQ is based at Monks Hill in South
Croydon
