Steyning Open 15km 21st Jan 06
Some Surrey Walking Club members never seem to have enough of their sport - after 10 miles last week some were out for the Steyning 15km which is less than a mile shorter. At least the scenery on a sunny, not too cold, afternoon was somewhat better just on the north side of the South Downs starting in the beautiful old town of Steyning. Some years ago the race, which still starts in the middle of the High Street, made several circuits round the edge of the town, but traffic has forced the course out into the hills on a fairly hard but picturesque out and back course. At the halfway turn Flint was almost half a minute ahead, but former Olympian Lightman is a determined fellow and by the end positions were reversed as newcomer David Hoben plugged away to finish not too far behind after a procession of hills which all seem uphill both going out and coming home.

Results:
10. S.Lightman 89 min 07 sec; 11. C.Flint 89 min 39 sec; 13. D.Hoben 104 min 04 sec.
