| This meeting brings together the over 40 men and over 35 women of all of the local clubs and athletic disciplines and so the keynote is friendly competition among people who’ve known each other for many years. This spirit was not too much affected by the generally damp weather and rather lower numbers than usual. The walk saw 5 members of Surrey Walking Club spread across the age-groups and some success. Nolan Simmons was probably the most pleased with a performance some half a minute inside his recent times. Heather Fenton who has been absent from the usual events for a few months was not far behind and no doubt this spurred Nolan on. Jack Fitzgerald, who with his involvement in running and walking over so many years, was well known to everyone at the Kingsmeadow stadium and received much encouragement from all as he finished not too far behind the field in a good time for his age group at over four and a half miles per hour. |
