| The July event in this series was held in hot weather – not a surprise this year! It was still 83 degrees leaving the Park at
8:30 so even though we are all becoming conditioned to the conditions times were on the slow side as Surrey Walking Club members filled a good proportion of a reasonably sized field. Our first home was Richard Brown in a fast time for a 100 mile specialist who started moderately but came past a number of rivals including his wife Sandra who easily won the ladies’ event despite some cramping. The rest of us plodded on with 83yr old Jack Fitzgerald completing the race this time as he prepares for 5km and 20km walks at the World Masters Championships in Poland – as well as running the marathon! |
