| Surrey Walking Club’s Christmas Cup handicap race attracted a good number of visitors so 31 faced the starter in the main 5km race including most of the younger age groups. Conditions were ideal for racing with the threatened wind not rising and a temperature which was mild for November. The competitors were fairly evenly spread through the first three quarters of the field so the competition was always within reach. The handicapper did a good job with most net times for the 11 Surrey athletes within a 2 or 3 minute band and the winner of the Cup, David Crane just clear. David had an excellent race finishing 4th overall less than a minute behind the winner. Second home for the Club was Lyn Atterbury who had slightly further to come for the event as he is currently resident in Poland and was specially welcomed and, despite the journey, performed well. |
