| Enfield incorporated the 10km road walk championship for British Masters in their own event so pushing up the numbers to around 50 and encouraging competition. Even though the judging was appropriately strict there was only 1 disqualification and for most, including several novices, it was a competitive and enjoyable event. Surrey’s first home was Stephen Crane in a time not far off his recent best on what is not a fast course with 30 bends. Behind him M70 Mick Harran showed good style and determined speed to finish 2nd in his age-group some way behind 1st M70 but that was the performance from the age group world record holder Arthur Thompson of Herts Phoenix. The rest of the team came in with reasonable but not outstanding times perhaps being especially careful to avoid the judges’ censure. |
