|Once again the popular Enfield league races attracted a field of around 50 despite a few missing names. Surrey Walking Club was represented by 10 members of whom all but two were first claim scorers and did not include our Captain, Nolan Simmons, who is unfortunately sidelined by serious injury. The conditions were almost ideal with a slight breeze and slight dampness in the air between showers. Stephen Crane broke 42 minutes and was in Bronze medal position for the first time on what is not an easy course with a concrete surface and many turns. Level with the
4th place competitor at the half way point he showed his usual determination not to slow and pulled away by a clear margin. Most of the rest of the team were closely packed with Shaun Lightman next home and unable to drop a determined Mick Harran. Olympic Silver medalist Paul Nihil was out again and worked hard for an improved time (compared with recent performances) while Jack Fitzgerald, now in the 85 age group, was also pleased with sub 16 minute miles not far short of 4 mph.
