| The Johnson Bowl race, now more than 100 years old, forms BBHAC’s road walking championship and incorporates a match against Surrey Walking Club where any joint members score for Blackheath. As several of the active members now use Blackheath as a regular training venue and have become joint members, the field – rather reduced because of the weather – were all Blackheath members. This took nothing from the competition for the Bowl and Roger Michell, the current holder, made sure of retention with an excellent performance from the gun and was not far off 8 minute miling. The race is usually held on a perfect warm July evening – this year it wasn’t although the rain did leave off for the race itself. |
