| Constrictions on the athletics calendar and selection dates for international meant this important national championship was held on Easter Sunday but also resulted in smaller field than usual. Surrey Walking Club was due to a team of three but in fact only two made the trip to Shrewsbury and one of these, Roger Michell, happens to now live in that locality. Once again Stephen Crane was first home for the club in a personal best for the distance and 5th place. Roger has not walked in a National event for some years but remains very fit and as 2nd M60 in this race. He was comfortably inside two hours to mark a significant return to the racewalking scene. |
