| A slight increase in temperature produced much better conditions and times than of late. In fact Surrey Walking Club’s Stephen recorded his fastest time for the very familiar but by no means easy Enfield course and finished in and excellent
2nd place. This despite really going for it from the start and holding on to the winner for the first 1 mile lap. He slowed a little and though falling behind by 90 seconds he remained the same sort of time in front of the next finisher. Not too far down the field of more than forty, Shaun Lightman continued his recent good form also having started quickly and slightly slowed but with a creditable outcome. It was also good to see Pam Ficken out again after the best part of a year moving at well over 4.5 mile
per hour pace. To round off a successful outing for Surrey Walking Club Stephen Crane was awarded the prize for the best overall league competitor for last year, 2008. Club member Sara Lightman has also been improving in Leicester with a 68 min 57 sec personal best to finish
3rd in the Norton Handicap 10km |
