|A fairly low temperature and a slight breeze did not put off an excellent total entry of 75 for this important race for the South and in such a competitive event it did not take long for the racers to warm up. Surrey Walking Club finished a team of three in the main 10km but not as well up as hoped with one disqualification and a number of regulars not racing although some were there to support. The best SWC performance came in the tightly contested Under 13 Boys 2.5km where Andrew Statter in 2nd achieved a personal best to finish only 9 seconds behind the high standard winner Guy Thomas from Tonbridge. This was a close struggle with Andrew managing to get past the 3rd competitor who finished only a further 7 second later. The Senior men’s race saw 3 break 45 minutes – the best result for many months. Once again Shaun Lightman had a good race for exactly 58 minutes and held the competitor ahead for the first 9 km. Further back Mick Harran and second claimer Chris Flint battled it out with Mick finishing 20 seconds clear. Click here to see photos from the race|
