|Two visitors from the south invaded this midlands event on the quiet highways and byways outside the county capital of Leicestershire, an a pleasant mild November day.
The winner of the event, Sarah Lightman, daughter of Surrey Walking Club's very own former Olympian, Shaun Lightman, finished in 67.17 and was rewarded with a personal best and a win in the handicap - obviously following her father's footsteps. The handicapper did a very accurate estimate of the handicaps on the start line, as the closing stage downhill to the clubhouse saw almost the whole pack of 9 nearly converging at the finish, a difficult result to achieve.
Newcomer Kate Hargreaves achieved just under 67 minutes in her first ever 10k race with a number of climbs, which is a great result and the midlands ladies will need to watch out in the future as she claims more scalps. David Hoben was only representative of SWC at this race meeting with a time relatively faster than last week over a much harder course.
