National 10km Road Walk Championships, Hillingdon Cycle Track  2nd Sep 12
The main event this week was the National 10km which was held on a new venue for this event the Hillingdon Cycle Track. The course is undulating with one short sharp hill and thought by some to be long however with favourable weather, strong competition and a good surface, times were good with the field generally a minute or so under recent form. Surrey Walking Club was no exception and all four representatives did well with, in particular, another significant move back towards his speed a couple of years ago from Steven Crane as he battled to stay with teammate Mick Harran and several competitors from other Clubs near him. David Crane has been improving quickly and so continuing the trend has become more challenging but his time was better than expected and a personal best for the event hills or no hills. Mick Harran went quite well but was beaten by a more competitive Peter Hannell on this occasion. Second team medals came as a welcome bonus. Click here for photos from the race
