Molly Barnett 10km, Coventry 1st Mar 2014
Only Shaun Lightman turned out for Surrey Walking Club this weekend as he was prepared to travel up to the Midlands for this historically big race. He was rewarded with a good time - a minute up on recent races after a race-long battle with Coventry’s Martin Slevin who eventually caught Shaun with 800 to go to finish only 6 seconds ahead although 20 years younger. The leaders of the men’s and women’s races both provided some special interest as the first man, a visitor from New Zealand named Quentin Rew, was sub 40 minutes - an excellent time from the 2012 Olympian while the first Woman also took part in the London Olympics under her maiden name of Jackson . Behind Quentin was Tonbridge’s Tom Bosworth with a big personal best only just outside of 40 minutes. The conditions were very good with a cool breeze and no rain.
