|The Southend One Mile was held in cool weather with a continuous drizzle. From the gun Shaun Lightman (Surrey WC), Martin Fisher (Redcar) and Chris Cattano (Southend) battled for the lead. Shaun led for the first two laps, on lap three Chris Fisher took over with all three together. On the final lap Chris broke away to win in 8m 45.9s followed by Martin 8m 56.6s and Shaun 9m 16.7s, a time very close to recent form. Steve Allen (Ilford) held 4th place for three laps before being ruled out by the judges. Following him, the second group Peter Binns, John Brock (both Southend) and Eamonn Shelley (Thurrock) had a very close race with Peter Binns getting the verdict for 4th place over John Brock both recording 10m 24.4s with Eamonn Shelly recording 10m 25.1s.
