|Wednesday saw the latest edition of a race that has been held by Blackheath & Bromley Harriers and it previous incarnations for 110 years although now four rather than seven miles of racewalking. It also incorporates a match with Surrey walking Club and this year all 10 competitors were SWC members including just three who were also Blackheath members and competing for the BBHAC championship. Despite the inclusion of a not insignificant hill on all four laps, times were good especially for the winner, Malcolm Martin, whose best for the course exceed last year by 6 minutes and even taking account of his subsequent improvements over all distances was 3 minutes under what might have been expected. At the other end of the field, though not last, Sandra Campbell, an even newer recruit to the club was also over a minute quicker than last year. The winner of the BBHAC race was Shaun Lightman who prevented the race from becoming a procession as he easily moved from 10 to 9 minutes on the last lap passing several others on the way.
