Jim Sharlott/BMAF 10km, Leicester 17th Sep 17
Surrey Walking Club’s presence at the 100th Jim Sharlott race in Leicester was limited to just Angela Martin this year for various reasons. This is an important race as it hosts the British Master’s Road 10 km Championships and the total field of 30 is adequate on this quite short, flattish park circuit. As normal these days, UK resident Portuguese walker Fransico Reis was the clear winner by almost 9 minutes in a sub 49 minute time – very good for an M55. Local Steyning AC’s Ron Penfold had a good race in the M70s but was only good enough for silver in that group with an outstanding gold for Tony Taylor (Lancs.) in 58m 40s. The W50 gold went to SWC’s Angela who time at just over 70 minutes was slightly above form.
