|Excellent, dry but not cold conditions were ideal for mostly good times among the best of which was Surrey Walking Club’s Malcolm Martin. He led from gun to tape to finish nearly two minutes clear by the finish in a personal best for the distance. Also well up the field was Dan Maskell in his best recent time as he finished just one second ahead of David Kates (Ilford). Angela Martin also had good race as she held onto the group around her including Chris Flint who was also a second ahead at the end. Angela’s position in the race was lower than usual, not because of a poor time, but because of the welcome addition of a number of new younger walkers to the women’s field. David Hoben was also pleased with his time despite a fast start as he held Peter Hannell for the first two laps. The latter, returning from a long absence, was content with a slow but comfortable two laps.|
