National 10km, Coventry 20th May 18
The National 10km in Coventry had a good number of youngsters out in total although some groups were rather thin. The senior men’s race in which Surrey Walking Club’s only starter, Peter Hannell, was disqualified together with three others which was a very unfortunate picture when only nine started. Fortunately there were no disqualifications among any of the age groups. Times were on the whole poor as it was very hot for this early season day. Once again SWC’s only real interest came from Shaun’s coaching group with a 1st and a 2nd from Blackheath & Bromley girls. Katie Brash had an easy victory in the U13s with a fast time in the conditions although naturally not a p.b. this race. With 9 in the Girls Under 15s Abi Smith was faced with a much tougher competition easily beating local rival, Katie Stringer (Ashford), in a time very much like her Kent result with all her group some way below their best in the heat.
