RWA Inter-Area Match, Nuneaton 29th Apr 18
This annual fixture was held in rather cold conditions last Sunday, somewhat similar to the Enfield event the previous day. This was a significant and competitive match so there were many good performances and several personal bests. Surrey Walking Club had only one competitor with Roger Michell representing the Midlands. He was not at his best and finished in last position in the Senior menís 5km.
However it was a different story for Shaun Lightmanís coaching group from Blackheath & Bromley. Isobel Bridge was second in the Under 17W 5k with a performance not too far from her best after a race long battle with Lucy Lewis Ward (Camb) , they were on 2m 16s laps but Lucy pulled out a 2m 2s last lap.
Katie Brash had a conservative first lap then opened up and won the U13G 2km by over 100m.
Abi Smith in the U15G 3km had a race long battle with Katie Stringer ((M&M). They walked stride for stride until the last 100m when Abi opened up a 2m gap and Katie close on the line. The recorders gave them a dead heat.
