VAC 5km Championship, Battersea Park 9th Jul 19
Last Tuesday evening saw the Veterans AC 5km Championship at Battersea Park, the third of this year’s fixtures. This was a busy event with a large number competing in the running section while the race walking group was in line with past experience. It was a cloudy evening giving an ideal temperature for racing once again. There had been many VAC 5k championships previously in conjunction with other organisers’ races, but this was the first stand-alone event and made Penelope Cummings from AFD a new VAC championship winner. Half of the field were Surrey Walking Club members with Dan Maskell first home after a Belgrave’s Maureen Noel. David Hoben and Paul King were also close and this pushed David to an improved time just 8 seconds clear and a couple of an out-of-form Shaun Lightman.

Results:
1. S.Zennaro (Belg M45) 26 min 42 sec; 2. P.Cummings (AFD W40) 28 min 14 sec; 3. M.Noel (Belg W55) 32 min 4 sec; 4. D.Maskell (Sy WC M70) 32 min 22 sec; 5. T.Casserley (Gard CR M80) 34 min 18 sec; 6. D.Hoben (Sy WC M65) 34 min 55 sec; 7. P.King (Belg/Sy WC M65) 35 min 3 sec; 8. S.Lightman (Sy WC M75) 37 min 12 sec.
