Vets AC 5km Battersea Park 3rd Aug 21
As athletics events resume Veterans AC held the September Battersea Park wak and run under the new Covid safe rules. The course and the total distance were shorter for both racewalk and run at 5km. On this sunny but not hot evening 11 turned out with three Surrey Walking Club and one young Blackheath & Bromley guest, Johnny Ellerton (U17). Generally times were down with Covid restrictions and lack of events affecting most to some extent. At the front of the field Johnny had a very competitive match with Ilfordís Stuart Bennett with the latter around his pre-Covid pace. The best that can be said of the 3 SWC menís result was that they occupied successive positions in age order at the rear.David Hoben and Chris Flint battled together to finish less than half a minute apart with a slightly better performance from David. Hannell was dropped early on but just beat his 40-minute target.
