The next club race is the 4 miles on 29th June and the next club stroll is on Saturday 2 July with Lynne McKenzie as conductor

Welcome to the Surrey Walking Club. The Club was originally formed in 1899 as a race walking club. We are still involved in race walking but we now promote a range of walking related activities including ultra distance walking and we have our own successful long distance social walking section known as the Strollers.

Next Club Race

Next Club Stroll (Long Distance Walk)

Saturday 2 July. Overton to Whitchurch (linear). Conductor: Lynne McKenzie. Start 09:46 at Overton station (08:50 from London Waterloo). One train back from Whitchurch at 14 minutes past the hour (option to drive to Overton as return train stops at that station).

Route description: The morning takes us on a circular walk through Jane Austen country around Overton.  We shall walk in the undulating scenery of north Hampshire passing churches, country houses and the source of the River Test.  Lunch in Overton where there are many options.  The afternoon linear walk to Whitchurch follows a low ridge in the North Wessex Downs and encompasses part of the Mill Trail with many crossings of the crystal clear River Test with its watercress beds and brown trout.  Tea stop at Silk Mill where there is a museum with garden in addition to the teashop.

Update from Lynne: The rain and warm weather has meant much growing of crops and nettles so I would suggest preparedness for stings and scratches if shorts are worn and bringing a scythe may be advisable.  The suggested pub for lunch is the White Hart but there are many other places to pick up food in Overton.

Explorer 144. Distance approx. 18 miles.
