The next club race is the SWC 3km Champs on the 17th Jun at Norman Park and the next club stroll is on the 2nd February with Gavin Fuller as conductor

Welcome to the Surrey Walking Club. The Club was originally formed in 1899 as a race walking club. We are still involved in race walking but we now promote a range of walking related activities including ultra distance walking and we have our own successful long distance social walking section known as the Strollers.

Next Club Stroll

Sunday 2nd February: West Croydon to Epsom Downs (linear). Conductor: Gavin Fuller.

Start West Croydon station 9.15am (train departs London Victoria 08.34am. Overground departs New Cross Gate 08.34am - note 2 mins. earlier than originally published - Norwood Junction 08.52am).

Additionally Gavin will be walking from East Croydon station and will collect anybody who wishes to travel via this route. Meet near main ticket barriers at 9.05 if you wish to join Gavin for the walk to reach West Croydon for 9.15. Return trains depart from Epsom Downs at 09 and 39 past the hour.

Route Description: Departing West Croydon we roughly follow the Wandle Trail through three parks before crossing a fourth in Carshalton to pick up the Wandle-Oaks link. We leave that near the Oaks to head to Woodmansterne for a lunch stop (Village green, shop and pub on hand). The afternoon sees us meandering across a number of probably muddy heaths to Walton-on-the-Hill where there is the option of a tea stop at a pub. We then go to Langley Wood (a WW1 Centenary Wood) before ascending across Epsom racecourse to Epsom Downs station.

Map: Explorers 146 and 161. Distance: 19 miles
