Application for membership
For all new prospective members, Club rules state that you must have a proposer and seconder to be elected and that you must have completed a club event (race or stroll) prior to election. But you are welcome to come along and have a go before you decide to join the Club. So, if you decide to join us, you can print out the application form , fill it in and send it with your subscription fee to the Club Secretary, Peter Hannell at 9 Furniss Court, Elmbridge Village, Cranleigh, Surrey GU6 8TN. If you just wish to stroll with the club you can use this alternative application form
Surrey Walking Club comprises members who have a wide range of abilities, age and commitment. Of course, the best way to find out if you want to join us, is to come along to a convenient club race or stroll. The race fixture list and strollers calendar section of the website sets out the details
Benefits of club membership
Walking gazette
The Club magazine "Gazette" which is Emailed to all members of the Club and includes club news, results and reports from both races and strolls.
The Strollers newsletter Strolling News is mailed to any member who expresses an interest in joining any of the Strolls. You will find all the details of forthcoming strolls listed in the newsletter plus any club news. Details of all walks (Races and Strolls) can also be found on this website
Social
The club has its social side too. Our races finish with tea and cakes and the strolls always stop at a tea shop or pub for refreshments. We also have annual club dinners and the occasional celebratory anniversary dinner.
Discount on races
Surrey Walking Club is affiliated to UKA (UK Athletics, the governing body of athletics in this country) and the South of England Athletics Association (SEAA)
So what does this mean for it's members? Club members do not have to pay the "unattached levy" when entering road races organised under UKA rules.
Whilst most of these road races are running races, many Racers and Strollers do take part in such races - the most famous being the London Marathon. And because the Club is affiliated to UKA we are entitled to apply for 2 London Marathon entries each year which are then allocated to Club members
